We The People Stainless Steel Tumbler Review With Specs

5.0 rating

As ardent supporters of the Second Amendment, my husband Chris and I are always on the lookout for products made in America by people who believe in our Constitutional rights. We The People Holsters fit the bill, so we contacted them to see if we could procure samples of their merchandise to review for you.

We The People kindly sent us a variety of products to review. We are working our way through them, giving each item a print review and a video review. We requested a 30 ounce red stainless steel tumbler decorated with images of the American Flag and the Betsy Ross Gadsden Flag. They also gave us a discount code to share with you: save 15% with the code DEG15.

Packaging for the WTP Stainless Steel Tumbler

The packaging for the WTP stainless steel tumbler

Our products arrived in two soft, thick-plastic, bubble-lined envelopes. Inside the envelope, nestled between a t-shirt and several holsters, was a cardboard box. The tumbler had been enveloped in a layer of bubble wrap and packed in the cardboard box for safe shipping. It arrived intact and undamaged.

Fit and Finish of the WTP Stainless Steel Tumbler

The bright scarlet red of the tumbler caught my eye at once. It’s about one shade brighter than the American flag flying over our front lawn. It is also available in black and stainless steel exteriors. The stainless version has black etchings and the black has stainless steel etchings.

The red tumbler has a stainless steel body with a red powder coat. The American Flag and the Betsy Ross Gadsden Flag are engraved into the powder coat. I can run my finger over the engraved figures and feel them. Tapping the tumbler with my fingernail produces an audible metallic ring.

The engraving is sharp, clear, and easy to see and feel. Because it is a removal of the paint rather than an addition, the image will not fade or wear off. The paint is not likely to chip with normal use.

Lid of WTP Stainless Steel Tumbler

The lid is thick plastic molded in one piece with a slider to open and close the hole from which you drink. A rubber ring around the perimeter of the lid provides insulation and helps keep the lid in place. The rubber ring is removable for cleaning.

Any time you buy any product with a tight seal for holding liquids, clean the rubber ring frequently to avoid mold growth because traces of saliva and beverages inhabit those rings.

Capacity of the WTP Stainless Steel Tumbler

The website offers a 20 ounce version and a 30 ounce version. I tested ours and it does indeed hold 30 ounces of water.

I also took the measurements of the tumbler. It is 2 5/8″ across the bottom, the same as the Contigo travel mug I use in my car and the Yeti mug Chris was keeping at the bedside before the WTP tumbler arrived. Its circumference at the base is 9 1/8″, increasing to 12 9/16″ at the top. The width across the top is 3 7/8″.

The slider runs the length of the top and is 1 1/4″ across. The hole for drinking is shaped like the silhouette of a sedan and is exactly the same circumference as my pinkie finger. The empty tumbler with the lid on weighs 13 1/2 ounces according to my food scale.

How the WTP Stainless Steel Tumbler Maintains Hot and Cold Temperature

The website states that the tumbler keeps beverages cold for 24 hours and hot for 6 hours. I filled the tumbler with regular-sized ice cubes and drove around with it on a hot day. It maintained the cold so well that I drank all the water and had to contend with an ice sculpture that formed because the large cubes did not melt.

The next morning, after 24 hours in the tumbler, the ice sculpture still occupied 1/3 of the tumbler. I added crushed ice and fresh water and set out for the day. The crushed ice did not form a monolith and I was able to drink cold water all day.

The next day I boiled water in my electric kettle and poured it into the tumbler. I placed the lid on the tumbler and poked a thermometer into the lid. The thermometer read 204 degrees by the time I got the photo. I closed the lid and waited exactly 6 hours. When I opened the lid and inserted the thermometer it settled at 131 degrees. It felt hot but not scalding when I dipped my finger into the water.

How the WTP Stainless Steel Tumbler Fits in My Cup Holder

I drive a 2008 Acura TL with cup holders that do not accommodate large cups. The WTP tumbler fit my cup holder perfectly. The console between the seats invades the space of the cupholder to the right of the driver just a bit, but I was able to seat the tumbler securely and wrap my hand around it safely while driving.

Ease of Use for the WTP Stainless Steel Tumbler

My husband’s enormous hands (glove size 2XL) fit the top of the tumbler perfectly and he can maneuver the spout with one finger while holding the cup securely.

I wear small to medium gloves. I can wrap my hand around the tumbler for holding it, but working the slider with a finger is too much. At first the slider would not stay put without a finger to hold it in place, so I figured out how to maneuver my lip into the aperture. After I completed the temperature test above, the slider locked into place. Now it stays where I put it and I don’t have to hold it with a finger or my lip.

Cold water from a stainless steel container tastes good and fresh. The double wall insulation keeps the tumbler from sweating. I have it resting beside me on a piece of leather and the leather is dry.

Cleaning the WTP Stainless Steel Tumbler

The tumbler is not dishwasher safe. Hand wash it with a drop of dish detergent.

Our Recommendation

I like the tumbler, but with my small hands I would like it better in the 20 ounce size. Chris likes the large tumbler. He especially likes the locking lid. The Yeti he had been keeping at his bedside spills when he knocks it over.

How the WTP tumbler looks next to the Yeti tumbler

Chris also mentioned that he likes the idea of replacing a Yeti product with a We The People product given the recent controversy between Yeti and the NRA (which ended in a cease fire).

We The People’s Website

I perused wethepeopleholsters.com and found it straightforward and easy to navigate. When you want a holster, you choose your specific gun model, specify any add-ons such as sights that will change the profile of the gun, choose a right- or left-handed orientation, and then pick a skin. We lean toward the patriotic themes such as the Second Amendment and the US flag, but you can also get solid colors and various camouflage patterns.

The holsters are Kydex and are molded to fit your specific model of gun for the best retention and least wear on the finish of the gun. Watch for upcoming reviews on holsters for several guns.

In addition to holsters and tumblers, We The People sells hoodies, hats, belts, shirts, branded gear, and 4 different flavors of bacon jerky. Camouflage items are made by Realtree for folks who want to blend in when they are out in the field. They offer phone cases with patriotic themes, some of which are quite outspoken.

The We The People Company

We like that We The People is headquartered in Las Vegas, NV and its products are made in America. We also like that items over $50 are shipped free to customers in the USA. We especially like that We The People will ship you a replacement if you order the wrong size and need to make an exchange.

Other WTP Products to Try

If you like Kydex, you will like We The People Holsters. If you like patriotic themed gear, go for a patriotic shirt or hat. Get a phone case to express your love of America with each phone call. And of course try the bacon jerky.
